Writing 101 | Brief Introduction to “LGBT+”

LGBT+

The Stary Writing Academy III is on. Come and compete for the total prize of $101,000!!!

Theme 4: LGBT+

If the protagonist is the most popular sports boy in school and is gay, what kind of person will he fall for? What kind of adventure will they experience?

If the protagonist is the princess of the werewolf pack, what kind of girl will she love? What should their perfect ending look like?

Love is love, and writers are free to explore the possibilities in developing LGBT+ protagonists in all their glory promoting inclusiveness without pandering.

LGBT+ protagonists

Mainline 1: After breaking up with EX

What our LGBT+ hero or heroine will do “After the Breakup” is one of the plot‑line writers can develop. Will they reunite or go their separate ways? Will they stay loyal or let loose completely?

Examples:

*Most werewolves have only one fated mate in their life. What would happen if a werewolf were rejected by his mate? Run away with a broken heart, maybe he would encounter a second mate by chance? Or, a third?

*The nerd was suddenly pursued by Mr. Popular, and when the nerd fell completely in love, he learned that everything was just a joke. After being humiliated in front of everyone, he may undergo a radical change. When he appeared before Mr. Popular, handsome and perfect, how would Mr. Popular react?

Mainline 2: Taming a playboy

“Taming a Playboy” is easier said than done. This kind of story can be a test for writers to find the weaknesses of our protagonists creating an opening for them to be tamed.

Examples:

*If a billionaire wants to have a contract marriage with you, will you accept him or reject him? What if he is a notorious playboy? He toys with others and treats you in the same way. Would you fall in love with him, run away from him, or try to tame him?

*Between two rich men who were known for their love affairs, who would be the winner? What happens when one playboy falls in love with another playboy?

Mainline 3: Secret Lover

When he/she falls in love with someone he/she shouldn’t, how do they overcome the difficulties and get a happy ending?

Examples:

*Because of his androgynous body, he was afraid of interpersonal communication and he didn’t dare to have intimate relationships with others. But then he met someone who made his heart flutter. In the process of getting to know and falling in love with each other, his secrets came out gradually.

*One was an Alpha, who had been the golden boy of the pack since childhood. The other was the child of a traitor, scorned and looked down upon since childhood. When Alpha fell in love with the target of public criticism, how would this secret relationship be maintained?

Maybe none of the above ideas is the story you want to tell. It doesn’t matter. A good LGBT+ story has infinite possibilities! Feel free to create as many LGBT+ stories as you like.

*Notices:

1. The protagonist of your story must belong to the LGBT+.

2. A story about someone soul-swapped with the opposite gender is not an LGBT+ story. That is a BG story.

3. If the protagonist of your story is a transgender person, you should know the characteristics of transgender people. If the transgender person in your story is no different than a straight man/woman, it is not an LGBT+ story.

4. If your protagonist is bisexual, then the love plot between him/her and the same-sex lover must be more than 70% of the whole text.
